April - so much to delight!

We heard our first cuckoo of the year. The early butterflies are out; Brimstone (Gonepteryx rhamni ), Comma (Polygoniac-album), Peacock (Aglais io), Red Admiral (Vanessa atalanta) and Orange tip (Anthocharis cardamines).

The bluetits (Cyanistes caeruleus) are nesting on the shed. There is also a wren's (Troglodytidae) nest on the shed and evidence of use but we have not seen any movement yet. They might be roosting at night.

We put a wildlife camera on the South Dyke to observe the frog spawn and were rewarded with a first glimpse of a stoat (Mustela erminea). This has not previously been recorded.

We planted native orchids (Dactylorhiza fuchsii.) last year and are very pleased to see they have come back again.

We are planning for our open day in May. Also, big excitement: we will be having triple vaccinated badgers later in the year. The sett will be built in June.

Steve actually saw a goldfinch (Carduelis carduelis). He has often heard but this is the first time he saw them on site.

Mary discovered and rescued a new birdwatching spot.
