Butterfly sightings are becoming increasingly common as the weather starts to warm up.
But which ones are first on the scene? What you are most likely to see in early spring include:
Peacock, from mid-February
Small tortoiseshell, from the end of February
Brimstone, from the start of March
Comma, from the start of March
Red admiral, from the start of March
Small white, from the end of March
We have already seen 4 peacocks and a small tortoiseshell. Steve also saw a shrew in the snake pit.
Once again are are trying to protect our bluebells which are valianty trying to survive. This time we have changed our strategy. Last time we covered the emerging bluebells with brambles. That worked but as soon as they grew above the covering the deer just chewed up the shoots. This time we have used brambles and made little tepee structures around them. We had planned to have a beautiful bluebell entrance to the woodlands.
We asked how Buckenham Woods had their spectacular displays and were told they have a main road by them! Hmmm!

So wonderful to see blue skies again. The daffodils are multiplying beautifully and the dyke is full of life.

It's enough to make you smile!!
