Email from Norfolk County Recorder for fungi.

Dear Steve

Many thanks for submitting your fungus records to NBIS. As County Recorder for fungi, I am asked to 'verify' records sent directly to NBIS before they are added to the Norfolk fungus database and to the national database. I see that a number of these records are yours from Blackwater Carr. Having not heard of the site (sorry!) I found your website and realised what an interesting place it clearly is!

There is no problem with the majority of your records which are mostly for widespread species that do not require critical examination, but I have queries about a couple.

Rhytisma punctatum. This has not hitherto been recorded from Norfolk and not very widely across Britain. It should be easy to identify from its host and appearance and there is no reason to think that it would not occur in Norfolk. However, it would be good to have supporting evidence. I presume that you will not have retained a specimen (but if it reappears please do so and let me know). Do you have a photograph?

Lactarius pallidus. This is widely recorded in Britain but with only a single record on the Norfolk Mycota (database), from 1989. There are two Norfolk records on the NBN Atlas - I don't have details of the other. Again it would be helpful if you could supply any supporting evidence, including its association (almost always with beech) and any literature used for the identification.

There are currently records for over 4000 fungal species from Norfolk. The Norfolk Fungus Study Group carries out recording forays; would you welcome a visit from us?

With best wishes, Tony

We look forward to a visit from the Norfolk Fungus Study Group and extending our knowledge about fungi.
