Storms have continued unabated and we have been unable to access the woodlands since December. With great trepidation we went down last week and Steve was able to retrieve the wildlife cameras.
It was a shock to see just how much flooding had happened. The first picture shows what the path near the South Dyke usually looks like and how it has become.
All of the different areas were flooded and stayed that way for a very long time.
The plus side of this means we had some new visitors on site. The ducks, geese and swans had a wonderful time. The Mandarin duck, Aix galericulata, has not previously been recorded. Apparently Mandarin ducks are considered the most beautiful in the world.
Steve found several white legged snake millipedes, Tachypodoiulus niger, on the junipers in the native hedge along the track.
With the very unpredictable nature of the weather we have been very concerned the inspector might have a wasted journey from London this Thursday 15 February. We are pleased to say the inspection of the site has been postponed till Tuesday 2 April.
