Last year we were told by a Bure Valley volunteer to protect our native bluebells from the Muntjac by covering the ground with cut brambles. It seems to work. This year we have 8 clumps emerging. We have been covering the whole area we planted as we don't know where they will come up. We have added more bramble to the clumps which makes it easier to look for the bluebells.
Our Fen meadow is looking much better this year. We hope this isn't because the nettles and bindweed haven't started growing yet. In the meantime we are ploughing our way through BA's 144 pages of Fen Meadow Strategy to develop our management plan. It deals with the meadow and all the other elements, eg: mammals, birds, invertebrates etc.

Under the Oak tree we had planted 100 native daffodils some years ago. While very few daffodils have yet come up on the side near the trees, we were still able to count 100 daffodils.

The oak tree is budding already.

Hazel catkin.
The moles are back in full force.

And the biggest surprise of all...we lifted the corrugated iron just in case. It was a delight to see our first grass snake of the year.
