June blog- many hands make light work

While we are very disappointed about the dismissal of our appeal, it is all about Blackwater Carr so the work must go on.

Jerry and Brian from Bure Valley Conservation group arrived on Tuesday bringing their reciprocating mower to cut the fen meadow. The machine is a thing of beauty, so ergonomic, so quiet. Steve got to have a play too. It was surprising how quickly the meadow was cut. The cuttings fell away in lines making it easier for the next steps.

On Wednesday morning 14 members of the Bure group arrived ready for work.

We had 3 volunteers, including Kate who had come up specifically from London.

Within 3 hours the raking up was all done and they were gone.

Kate, who came up from London to lend a hand. Brian being a walking tree. Lots of chat as well as lots of work.

It was lovely to meet the volunteers. We could never have done this work by ourselves. There were so many skills and so much knowledge. It was a great networking and social opportunity for us all. We both had aching arms, legs and backs for the next few day.

We cannot thank Bure Valley Conservation group enough!
