We were unable to get up to the woodlands for several weeks so it was an absolute pleasure to see the emerging signs of spring. The bluebells are just peaking through the vegetation by the bridge. Last year we had no bluebells at all. We thought the deer had eaten them. This year we have high hopes for them.
For the first time since we bought the woodlands we have seen masses of frogspawn. We have seen several frogs over the years but never any frogspawn. We have put a wildlife camera to record the changes.
Goat willows are in bud. The birds are thinking about nesting. We are getting slow worms
so have set up a compost bin ready for them. The hedgehog house with raised legs, in case of flooding, is ready for when we get hedgehogs. They will be coming out of hibernation, as will the slowworms.
We are appealing to the Secretary of State to keep the yurt as a necessary management hub for the conservation work we are carrying out. We feel the process with the Broads Authority Planning Committee was flawed and perhaps short sighted.
We are planning an open day in May so local people can enjoy the tranquil space and see the vital work we carry out. More about that as we firm up our plans.
