Jan 2025 –the days are getting longer

The moles obviously welcomed in the new year with much gusto. The mole hills are large and everywhere.

Thanks to our latest volunteers Joanna and her son Oscar we were able to clear an area, cut back the brambles and plant a small Scots Pine, Pinus sylvestris.

We have also replaced the dead elder, Sambucus nigra , with a new one.

Oscar loves climbing so next time we hope he will climb up and bring down the owl box which needs repairing.

Two bluebells are peaking through the brambles we have spread to keep the muntjac at bay. We will be checking to see if that tip actually works.

When checking through the wildlife cameras we noticed it was -8 at 8.40am on 12 January!

We also recorded a tawny owl on the wildlife camera in the wildflower meadow.

A flurry of activity by the bird box on the shed makes us think the bluetits are getting ready for chicks. Thanks to Phil who made the bird boxes for us.

So lovely to see the signs of Spring!
