It started with Storm Babet in October and has continued on through the storms and high tides. We have had so many alerts from Floodline. Bryan Southon, a local supporter and friend, sent us this photo. The gate is more than a metre high. Behind it you can see just how high the water level is. The track behind the hedge is running like a river. Bryan walked the Environmental Agency path by the River Yare and says the whole woodlands is flooded. He will let us know when it dries out and it is safe to go back to Blackwater Carr.

On the plus side, because of so much waterlogging, we have caught a screenshot of a Great White Egret. Ardea alba, which has never been recorded on site before.

Egrets are symbols of good fortune, purity and grace. In many places, these big white birds also symbolise new beginnings and prosperity with new endeavours. In addition, these inspirational and eye-catching birds represent peace, balance and the divine.
As we now have an inspector assigned to our appeal, we hope this is an auspicious sign! The date for the site visit is Thursday 15 February 2024. We will have to continue to monitor the weather, the tides and the drying times to see if it is safe for this visit to go ahead.
